Relatives and friends are invited to Eva's Life Celebration on Friday, November 6, 2026 from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral at 12 noon at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4700 Wheeler Rd, Oxon Hill, MD 20745.  Interment will be held at Maryland Veteran's Cemetery, 11301 Crain Hwy, Cheltenham, MD 20623.

Juanita Marie Kernekin (Weaver), 84, of Riva, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. 

Juanita was born on October 10, 1942 in Pelham, North Carolina she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Geneva (Adkins) Weaver. 

Juanita is survived by her loving children, Ronald Kernekin (Joran) and Kimberly Stock; her cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Amoruso, Kristen Amoruso, Jessica Skipper, and Ricky Skipper; and five great-grandchildren, Donovan, Dylan, Savanna, Desi, and Sophie. 
She is also survived by her devoted sister, Shirley Connolly; her nieces, Suraya Teeple and Kelly LaValley; her nephew, Marc Connolly; and her niece, Susan Connelly.

As a young adult, Juanita lived with her sister Shirley, where they both worked as telephone operators for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company. The sisters enjoyed dancing and taking weekend excursions together. Throughout the years, Juanita and Shirley loved sharing stories of their younger days and the many adventures they experienced together.

Juanita was a dedicated mother to Ronnie and Kim and took an active interest in their lives, including The Mod Squad Majorettes. Her home was often a gathering place for family and friends, with weekends spent enjoying each other’s company around the backyard pool. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her much happiness.

Juanita was a devoted Christian who loved reading her Bible, attending church, and enjoying fellowship with others. Her faith was an important part of her life. In April 2019, she traveled to Jerusalem to visit the places where Jesus lived and walked. On April 17, 2019, she reaffirmed her baptismal vows in the Jordan River, where Jesus was baptized. This was a deeply meaningful and special moment in her life.

Juanita enjoyed staying active and learning new things. She had a love for dancing and took ballroom dancing lessons, even participating in competitions. She also loved eating crabs and traveling with her family.

Juanita had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for making others laugh. She would often burst into song, singing out loud simply to bring a smile to someone's face. Her playful spirit and laughter brought joy to all around her and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Family was an important part of Juanita's life, she will be forever remembered and deeply missed by her loved ones. 
Juanita was preceded in death by her brothers, Clyde Weaver, Larry Weaver, and Roger Weaver.

Christopher “Chris” Hammond Wilson, 89, a lifelong resident of Harwood, MD, died at home on October 26, 2026.

Born on December 31, 1936, in Georgia, Chris was the son of the late John Fletcher Wilson and Dr. Emily Hammond Wilson. He attended the University of Virginia where he had the time of his life; and worked for Vanity Fair, Barton Cotton, as well as Obligation Farm.

Chris was a member of the South River Club, Vansville Farmers, and the Southern Maryland Society. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, reading, and following University of Virginia sports.

Chris is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Wilson; his children, John Fletcher Wilson, IV and his wife, Liliana Mora Wilson of Atlanta, GA, and Emily Hammond Wilson Greenwell and her husband, Joel Calvert Greenwell, Sr. of Harwood, MD; his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Cassie Teeter, Kinsey Teeter, and Kyleigh Teeter, and Cortney Greenwell Allen and her husband, Tim, Joel Calvert Greenwell, Jr. and his wife, Ashley, Caitlyn Greenwell Busche and her husband, Billy, and Candace Greenwell Godlewski and her husband, Mac; and four step great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by his brother, John Fletcher Wilson, Jr., and his son, Christopher Wilson Teeter.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 1 p.m. at St. James Church, 5757 Solomons Island Road, Lothian, MD. Following the interment, a memorial gathering will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at the home of Emily and Joel Greenwell at Etowah Farm, 4056 Solomons Island Road, Harwood, MD.

Relatives and friend's are invited to Erma's Life Celebration on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the start of the funeral at 11 a.m. at Fort Foote Baptist Church, 8310 Fort Foote Rd, Fort Washington, MD 20744.  The interment will be held in Florida at a later date. 

Anita Fay Baase, 90, of Gambrills, passed away on October 22, 2026, after a lengthy illness.

Known to all as Fay, she wore many hats throughout her life. She worked for Eastern Airlines and Nationwide Insurance, worked in retail, and finally spent many years driving school bus 371 in Anne Arundel County. She was also an amazing homemaker, always cooking, canning, and baking for family and friends.

Fay was always volunteering. She served first at First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Odenton and later at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gambrills, helping with Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and making quilts for fundraising and service projects. As a member of the Maryland Farm Bureau, she served as state chairman of the Women's Committee, and she dipped many an ice cream cone at the State Fair with the Young Farmers.

She was also a devoted member of the Anne Arundel County Fair, where she served as a volunteer, Fair Week Manager, director, and President. She was instrumental in the acquisition and development of the Fair's Crownsville site and gave countless hours to its growth and success, working with the Fair and 4-H to grow the livestock and agriculture exhibits.

She touched so many lives. She always made room for anyone who needed a place to belong, and to many friends of the family she was a second mom or "Granny Fay." There was always a homemade cookie to be found. She truly embodied the saying, "Those who bake bread seldom loaf." She will be deeply missed.

Fay was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Walter O. Baase and her parents, William Frank Burgess Jr. and Tessie Gertz Burgess. She is survived by her children, Anita Carol Baase and Roy Walter Baase (Stormie); her grandchildren, John Lee Wright, Nicole Bacsain, Stephanie Bacsain Roman (Evan), Samantha Wright-Harman (Travis), and Tabitha Jo Baase; her great-grandchildren, Alexander, Tessa, Abbi, Aurora and Remi. She is also survived by her sister, C. Jean Carico; her nephew, Michael B. Carico (Katie); three great-nephews; a great-niece and a great-great-nephew.

A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Friday, October 30 at Lakemont Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 900 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1370 Defense Hwy., Gambrills, MD 21054. 

John Edward Kelly, Sr., 92, died on October 20, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in London on August 20, 1934, John spent his grade school years in England and Ireland before his family settled in the Washington, D.C., area. He grew up alongside his brothers, Terence and Kevin, and his sisters, Patricia, Maureen, and Cathleen. He graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School, where he played football. After school, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee before starting his career and meeting his wife, Betty.

John began as an electrician and advanced quickly because of his technical knowledge and strong work ethic. He later established John E. Kelly & Sons Electrical Construction, Inc., known as Kelly Electric. The company has remained family-owned and in operation for more than 40 years, a legacy of his dedication.

John and Betty were married for 70 years and raised their 12 children in Arnold, MD. Their family grew to include 51 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He took pride in his children’s and grandchildren’s pursuits. He was a familiar presence on athletic sidelines and easily identifiable in his Irish tweed cap.

A devoted Catholic, John was a member of the Knights of Malta, a Catholic lay religious order. His faith, affection for his Irish heritage, and family were central to his life.

John was preceded in death just one week earlier by his wife, Betty. He is survived by their 12 children: John Jr. (Debbie), Colleen (Keith), Michael (Tina), Stephen (the late Sharon), Margaret (John), Teresa (Ronnie), Christopher, JoAnn (the late Terry), Joseph, Dara (Sean), Brendan (Holly), and Ryan (Virginia); as well as 51 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

A joint viewing honoring John and Betty will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. John Neumann Church, 620 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401, where a joint Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private.

On Monday, October 19, 2026; the beloved wife of the late George Henry Hickman, Jr.; mother of Vicki (Garey) Morgan, Terry (Jennifer) Hickman, Kathy Coleman and the late Herbert Coleman, Heidi Rivas and the late Sidney H. (Ratna) and Jeffrey Hickman; sister of Louise Taper Jones; also survived by 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Roger Thomas “Tom” Cole, Jr., of Annapolis, MD passed away on October 19, 2026. He was 61 years old.

Tom was born in Princeton, New Jersey on November 19, 1964 to the late Roger T. Cole Sr. and Gloria Gray Cole.

He graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree and then went on to Rutgers University where he received his MBA. He built his career over 30 years at BBPC, where he worked his way up to become partner and owner, with his name joining the firm’s. He helped pioneer the public-private partnerships that transformed military housing in the United States, advising the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force on bringing private investment to bases at home and abroad, including Navy bases in Hawaii, Japan, and Guam, and represented the Navy in negotiations with the government of Japan. Over his career he guided more than $15 billion in development across 48 states and five countries, for states, cities and private developers as well as the military, from family housing to downtown and waterfront projects.

Tom was a dedicated father and husband. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved duck hunting with his father, sons, and friends, as well as boating on the Chesapeake Bay. He enjoyed vacationing at the beach, listening to Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffett, and Van Morrison. He volunteered to coach his sons’ youth lacrosse teams and enjoyed planning involved, outdoor birthday parties. His top priority was never himself, and he made sure that any large decisions considered the wellness of his family over his own. He was known for his intelligence, determination, and dry sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife Anyura Cole, his four sons Travis Cole and his wife Megan Shanahan of Boston, MA, Brooks Cole of Annapolis, MD, Blake Cole of Frederick, MD, and Grady Cole of New Haven, CT, and his sisters Susan Cole of Montclair, NJ and Mary Cole of Mendham, NJ.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tom’s life on Tuesday, October 27, starting at 10 AM and his service will begin at 11 AM at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1911 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Susan Scott Berger 

April 11, 1946 – October 18, 2026 

Susan Scott Berger, a loving wife, devoted mother, and grandmother, was taken peacefully by the good Lord on the morning of October 18, 2026. 

Born on April 11, 1946, in a small town in West Virginia, Susan was the daughter of a widowed mother. Her biological father had died in a coal mining accident before she was born. Susan was the first Rh baby to survive at the hospital in Charleston, West Virginia, where she was born. She grew up in Beckley, West Virginia, raised by her mother and stepfather, Ann and Oral Brown, both of whom preceded her in death. 

Susan graduated from Marshall University in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and began working as a statistician with the Census Bureau in Suitland, Maryland. That same year, she met Craig, who had recently been discharged from the Air Force and was temporarily living with his mother in Susan’s apartment building. They fell in love and married two years later, beginning a marriage that would span 56 years. 

Five years into their marriage, Susan was expecting their first child. She chose to leave her government career to devote herself to raising their children. She was a wonderful mother and a loving wife, dedicating her life to her family. 

Susan is survived by her older brother, Jim; her loving husband of 56 years, Craig; her daughter, Andrea Travis, and Andrea’s fiancé, David Barnett; her son, Jason, Jason’s wife, Katie; and her four grandchildren, Anna and Jack Travis and Camden and Cyrus Berger. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Susan’s life on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, from 11am until her funeral service begins at 12pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road, Crownsville, MD 21032. Immediately following the burial, everyone is invited to Michael’s on The South River for drinks and food and to share memories.
