Dorothy M. “Dot” Chin, 92, a nineteen-year resident of Annapolis, MD and previously of Bowie, passed away on Sunday, February 1, at her home. Born on August 30, 1933, in Washington, DC to the late James and Esther Chan, Dot was a graduate of Wilson High School. She worked at the U.S. Census Bureau in the Data Users Services Division for many years. Dot was a member of Mothers of Twins and in her spare time she enjoyed knitting and puzzles. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Tin Fook “Fookie” Chin and her sister, Sandra Chang. She is survived by her children, Ronald J. Chin of Annapolis, MD, Roger G. Chin of Ocean City, MD, Raymond T. Chin of Owings, MD, Rosemary J. Lee of Port Republic, MD and Robin C. Goldberg of Chesapeake Beach, MD; her sisters, Margie Yee of Carson, CA and Jane Huie of Oxon Hill, MD and eleven grandchildren. Friends are invited to celebrate Dot's life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, February 10 from 10 am until her funeral service begins at 11 am. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD. Frederick Irving Trefry, age 92 formerly of Temple Hills, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 1, 2026. Born on January 29, 1934 to Melbourne and Frances Trefry of Lynn Massachusetts.

Fred was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, affectionately called Grampy by his grandkids and Great Grampy by his great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia, his sister, Lillian Hally and his brothers, Ralph and Ernie Trefry. Fred was survived by his children, Susan Ploor (Tim), Thomas (Terry), John (Valerie), and Michael Sr.; his 7 grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Anna), Christina Gilliam (Steven), Rachel Lacy (Colin), Tiffany Hill (Charlie), Emily Trefry, Timmy Ploor, and Joey Trefry and his 7 great grandchildren, SJ, Blake, Parker, Nathan, Peyton, Ryleigh and Maycee.

Fred joined the Air Force in 1951 and proudly served in the Korean War. After his years in the service, he met the love of his life Patricia and started their family. Fred worked for the federal government for over thirty years as a management analyst. He retired in 1989 and was able to spend many years with Patricia. They spent much of their retirement involved in the church and frequent trips to his family camp in Nova Scotia, Canada. Fred devoted his life to serving the Lord through the Catholic Church in many capacities throughout his life including the Men’s Club at Holy Family Parish and the Knights of Columbus.

Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories and celebrate Fred’s life at a viewing on Monday February 9th, 2026 from 2-4 pm at Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd, Oxon Hill Md 20745. Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday February 10th, 2026 at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church at 2210 Callaway St, Hillcrest Heights, MD 20748. The Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD.

Pat Creed was born in Eunice, WV July 16, 1939. June was born in Elkton, MD June 1, 1941. Pat and June met in Elkton, MD while attending Elkton High School. They accepted Christ as their Savior at First Baptist Church in Elkton in 1960. He graduated from Elkton High School in 1958 and later attended Tennessee Temple University where June also took some classes. Later, he was awarded two honorary doctorates. He was called to preach in March of 1971 while attending Pastors’ School at First Baptist Church in Hammond, IN. He served as assistant pastor to Dr. Tom Wallace at Baptist Bible Church at Elkton, MD from June 1970 to June 1971. Then he served as assistant pastor to Dr. John Bonds at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Fairfax, VA from June 1971 to June 1972. He was then called to pastor the Independent Baptist Church of Clinton, MD where he served from June 1972 to May 1994. At that time, he accepted the position of Caribbean Director with Baptist International Missions, Inc. (BIMI) and served in that position from June 1994 to June 2012. Later, he served with BIMI as Caribbean International Representative. In that position he represented BIMI in churches around the States encouraging the participation of supporting missionaries through Faith Promise giving and challenging individuals to surrender their lives to the mission field. He continued with BIMI until his home-going on Friday evening, January 30, 2026.

He is survived by his loving wife, June, two sons (& their spouses) and two daughters (& their spouses): Pat, Jr. (Pam) Creed, Michael (Valerie) Creed, Kim (Reggie) Rempel, Beth (Brett) Bellamy; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to Dr. Creed's Life Celebration on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 10 A.M until the start of the service at 12 P.M. at Independent Baptist Church, 9255 Piscataway Road, Clinton MD 20735. Interment private.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Neil Jurik, our beloved father, friend, and cherished member of the community, whose kindness and warmth touched the lives of all who knew him.
Born in Charleroi, PA on December 6, 1940, to parents Pauline and Stephen Jurik, Neil lived a life filled with love, laughter, and deep connections to family and friends.  He was known for his infectious smile, calm temperament, and a ready willingness to help those in need.
Neil joined the U.S. Navy in 1960 and served proudly on the carrier USS Independence. Upon exiting the U.S. Navy, Neil became a Master Barber and has cut hair for generations of families. Being a barber was his passion, and clients travelled from all over to get their haircuts from him. He found joy in golfing and fishing and was a huge Washington Redskins fan.
Neil is survived by his sons, Kevin of Huntingtown and Neil of Davidsonville; his daughter, Stephanie of Lothian; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Rebecca, and Lillian, and his great-grandson, Jake. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Diane, and parents, Pauline and Stephen Jurik.
Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Neil's life on Wednesday, February 4 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, Maryland. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, February 5 at 11 am at Holy Family Church, 826 W Central Avenue, Davidsonville, Maryland. Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham on March 16, 2026 at 11:15 am.  Neil will be deeply missed, treasured always, and never forgotten. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Linda Darlene Covington, 76, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, MD passed away on January 29, 2026 at Gilchrist Center Howard County in Columbia, MD. Born on September 1, 1949 in Annapolis to the late Rebecca Elizabeth and Howard Lane Stokes, Linda graduated from Annapolis High School then worked for both Nationwide Insurance and R.E. Robertson Plumbing and Heating. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church and the Ladies of the Elks. Linda also enjoyed socializing, playing bingo with her friends and trips to the beach. Above all this, Linda loved sharing her life with Jim, her high school sweetheart in 1970 and her loving friends and family. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Douglas Covington. She is survived by her daughters, Crystal (Douglas Alexander) Covington-Alexander of Bowie, MD and Jaime (Mike) Weaver of Phoenix, AZ, and her granddaughter, Whitney Weaver. Linda is survived by her sister, Rebecca Fenzel.

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our Dad, Granddad, Grandfather and Great Grandfather, David Norman Staples, Jr, who died peacefully on January 28th, 2026. He was 97.

Dave was the cornerstone of our home and family. He helped raise four children, Shawn H. Staples (Patti Flores), Dawn M. Kraham (Robert Kraham), Glenn B. Staples and Wayne D. Staples (Tammy). He instilled values such as independence and resilience. Dave was married 62 years to his soulmate, Maxine Lowry Staples who preceded him in death last year. He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Ridgeway Staples, father, David Norman Staples Sr., his brother, Robert Wallace Staples, and son in law, Robert Martin Kraham.

He was an endearing grandfather whose legacy of strength and knowledge lives on in his 14 grandchildren: Meghan Staples, Holly Staples, Seth Kraham (Selena), Cassie Kraham, Matthew Kraham (Kirsten) and Shannon Kraham, Tiffany Eder, Olivia Staples, Brian Staples and Juliet Staples, Amber Staples, Savannah Staples, Amanda Staples and Tyler Staples. He also had 5 great grandchildren: Wyatt Lopez-Kraham, Hazel Bolden, Scarlett Kraham, Spencer Kraham and Skylar Kraham.

David Norman Staples, Jr. was born in Danville, Virginia on August 14th, 1928. Dave attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond Virginia.

He enlisted in the Marine Corp. from September 1945 to September 1946. He re-enlisted during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He was a corporal in the Marine Corp. He went to college at night where he met Maxine. He graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. David Norman Staples, Jr., married Maxine Muriel Lowry on March 16th, 1963.

He worked as a civilian for the government as an Industrial Hygienist for 20 years. As an Industrial Hygienist he was one of the first to know the harmful effects of asbestos, he tested noise pollution in and around airplanes especially noise pollution during the approach.

He was also a Mason. After he retired, he worked with FEMA in disaster relief as well as volunteering for the Coastguard Auxiliary. He always kept busy. His hands were not idle as he worked on projects around the house. He had a thirst for knowledge that made him passionate about topics including health topics, politics, and financial welfare. He was a nature enthusiast and an avid bird watcher. He participated in the Oyster Bay Restoration Project for Chesapeake Bay. His thirst for knowledge was found in books, magazines, articles, continuing education classes for seniors and searching the internet. He was a proud, fierce and feisty man who would have lived to 110 if God had not called him home. He will be missed. Our hearts mourn the loss but celebrate his long life and accomplishments.

David's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 25th at 11 AM at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road Edgewater, MD. Burial to follow at  Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road Crownsville, MD 21032.

Relatives and friends are invited to Joann's life celebration on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 10 A.M. until her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 5416 Henderson Way, Camp Springs, MD 20746. Interment immediately following Mass at Congressional Cemetery, 1801 E St SE Washington, DC 20003.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Kathryn's life on Friday, February 6 from 11 am to 12 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, 14515 Church St, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772, where her funeral service will begin at 12 pm. Interment will occur at a later date.

Joseph Felix DiBenio, 77, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, died at his home on January 26, 2026 of natural causes.   Born on July 8, 1948 to the late Henry and Lora DiBenio, he graduated from Annapolis High School and was an electrician with IBEW Local #26.  He was a member of Union Church of Herald Harbor, and in his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family at Sunny Shores Beach, the Moose lodge and other family social events.  He took great pride and joy in sharing time with his great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, John H. DiBenio.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Anita DiBenio, and his sister, Eldora Davis of Columbus, NC.

A memorial service to celebrate his life is being planned for the Spring of 2026.
