Richard Stevens Cassard, Sr., 96, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, in Annapolis, Maryland. Born on December 25, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Richard lived a life marked by dedication to family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.

Richard spent his youth along the banks of the South River in Riva, Maryland. A graduate of Annapolis High School, he went on to attend the University of Maryland before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served with distinction as a Flight Engineer with the rank of Staff Sergeant, flying in B-29 bombers. After completing his military service, Richard embarked on a 50-year career in public service. He began as a jet engine mechanic at Andrews Air Force Base and later worked as an engineering technician for the Army Corps of Engineers for over 20 years at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Upon retirement from federal service, he began a second career as the Fleet Coordinator for the Anne Arundel County Police Department, retiring after 16 years of service.

In 1955, Richard met the love of his life, Roberta English, on a blind date. The couple married and shared 53 wonderful years together before Roberta's passing in 2009. Together, they built their home in an apple orchard overlooking the water in Galesville, Maryland. It was there that they raised their children: Richard Stevens Cassard, Jr. (Laura), Linda Cassard Kenderdine (Dean), and David Andrew Cassard (Janel). Richard was also a devoted grandfather to Jacqueline Grace Alyea (Mac), Samuel Stevens Cassard (Brooke), Ariana Reece Cassard (Alex), Kristin Cassard Fidanza (Gavin), Andrew Joseph Cassard, Madeleine Kenderdine Lovell (Josh), Robert Stevens Kenderdine (Susan), and Elizabeth Ennis Kenderdine (Rebecca). His legacy extends to his five great-grandchildren, Jude McCann, Margot Reece, Sunny Marie, Julian Dean and Callie Grace, who brought him immense joy.

Richard's life was enriched by his many interests and affiliations. He was an accomplished three-sport athlete in his youth and earned a tryout with the New York Yankees. He worked as crew on the construction of the first Chesapeake Bay Bridge. He enjoyed oystering on the Bay with his father-in-law and cruising with his family on their boat, the Miss Roberta. In his late 60s, he discovered a passion for golf and continued playing well into his late 80s. For thirty years, Richard treasured the annual beach vacation with his family and could often be found swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, right alongside his grandchildren.

Richard lived the last 15 years at Ginger Cove Retirement Community in Annapolis where he enjoyed many friendships and received thoughtful care from a compassionate staff.

Richard was a member of Galesville United Methodist Church for nearly seventy years. He also belonged to numerous organizations, including the Order of Free Masons, the Annapolis Elks Lodge, the South Anne Arundel Lions Club, the Galesville Heritage Society, the Riva and Galesville Volunteer Fire Departments, and the D.C. Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Richard is also survived by his brother Louis Lippincott Cassard; nephew John Cassard; and nieces Romelle Hut, Biddy Labutka, and Teesy Black. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Roberta; his brother William Lippincott Cassard and nephew William (Cass) Cassard III.

Visitation will be held on March 26, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 08:00 PM at Kalas Funeral Home 2973 Solomons Island Road. A Funeral Service will be held on March 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Galesville United Methodist Church, 4835 Church Lane Galesville. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Galesville Heritage Society, 988 Main Street, Galesville, MD 20765.

Roy Duane Washington, Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026, in Oxon Hill, Maryland, with his wife by his side. He was born in Camden, New Jersey, on November 7, 1953, as the youngest of five children born to Roy Washington and Peggy Ann Gillespie, both of whom preceded him in death.

Roy was educated in the public school systems of Camden and Deptford, New Jersey, graduating from Deptford Township High School in 1972. He joined the United States Air Force in February 1976. After completing basic training in San Antonio, Texas, he was stationed in Germany, where he primarily worked in telecommunications. In September 1978, he returned to the United States and was assigned to Andrews Air Force Base in Morningside, Maryland. Roy served at Andrews until January 1981, when he transferred to Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. He concluded his military service in 1986.

Following his military career, Roy worked on the mainland with the American Red Cross. While visiting his sister Yvette, who also worked for the Red Cross, he met Teresa, who would later become his wife. After years of courtship, Roy and Teresa were married in May 1994. They welcomed two children into their family: Roy III and Gabrielle (Fennec). Roy held various jobs after leaving the military and eventually owned his own distribution business before retiring as a bus driver for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

Roy enjoyed many hobbies in his spare time. He loved the outdoors, spending many hours freshwater fishing. He also loved camping with the family. Roy especially loved woodworking in his shop. He spent hours making little projects. Roy also loved electric race cars.

Roy is survived by his wife Teresa, son Roy III, daughter Gabrielle (Fennec), grandson Roy IV, sisters Yvette Washington and Sheila Jenkins, daughters Anitra Graham and Akibba Tingling, daughter-in-law Zianne Bazemore, brother-in-law Irvin Jenkins, Atticus Alexander, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his brother Richard Clyde and his sister Carolyn Lincoln.

Relatives and friends are invited to Roy's Life Celebration on Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745.

Michael James McGivern, a resident of Harwood, Maryland of 54 years, passed away peacefully on March 20th, surrounded by his family.

Mike was born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Wheeling Jesuit University. He later earned his master’s degree from Georgetown University. Mike met his wife, Cindy, a student nurse, after a baseball injury in Pittsburgh, PA. Mike founded South County Construction in 1979 and served as President until his retirement in 2020, celebrating 40 years of business. He was a member of Old South Country Club, a Board Member of the Masonry Institute, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Old Crow Hunt Club.

Mike was a man of faith, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. Their PopPop always had the best stories. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors. He loved the beach, crabbing, and farming.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Cindy; his four children: Michele Galvin (Matt), Jennifer Lucas (Glenn), Cynthia Walsh (Jim), and Mike McGivern (C3). He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Luke and Annie Galvin; Michael and Nicole Lucas; Conor and James Walsh; and Megan Attkisson (Peyton). Mason, Madden, and Mitchell McGivern.

Family and friends are invited to gather for Mike's life celebration on Thursday, March 26, 2026, starting at 11 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 noon at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 101 Owensville Rd. West River, MD 20778. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with a reception in the church hall.

Michael Leonard Hamilton, 37, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, surrounded by his entire loving family after his courageous five-month battle with cancer. He faced his illness with strength, grace, and an unwavering spirit.

Born in 1988 in Meridian, Mississippi, Michael’s life took him across the country. He lived in Virginia Beach, Virginia; Edwards Air Force Base, California; Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Maryland; and Monterey, California, before settling in Annapolis, Maryland. There, he graduated from Broadneck High School in 2006. Following graduation, he diligently gave 17 years of service as an Assistant Cook for the United States Naval Academy Midshipmen Food Services Division. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Annapolis.

Throughout every chapter of his life, Michael met both opportunity and adversity with unmatched determination. Even as life presented significant health challenges, Michael persevered with remarkable resilience. He achieved things that doctors never thought he would. Through it all, he held on to a deep love for life and the world around him, never losing his sense of curiosity, humor, or bond with others.

Michael cherished his friendships and always enjoyed connecting with people that were blessed to be loved by him. He found joy in reading and writing stories, traveling to new places, hiking, and biking.

He brought his creativity to life through his writing, especially in his short story series featuring the “Little Friendship Shark,” the main character he created for his extensive literary works - a character who reflected his own quiet strength, warmth, kindness, and deep belief in connection.

Michael was an avid traveler - seeking adventures with the people he loved. With his loving family he visited all 50 states and many European countries. He was an avid hiker and was devoted to his annual 20-mile birthday trek tradition. Other highlights included hiking in the National Park system from Acadia to Yosemite. The beach was always the family’s happy place, and Michael was always the first one to jump in the ocean.

Above all, Michael treasured time with his family and had a special love for animals. His life was a testament to resilience, adventure, creativity, and the deep connections he built with those around him.

He is survived by his parents, Leonard and Peggy (Guy)Hamilton of Annapolis, Maryland, his sister, Amy and his brothers, Steven (Nora), and Christopher (Taylor), his nieces, Lesieli and Masoili Vailea, and nephews, Leonard Vailea and Anthony Michael Hamilton, his namesake. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Shirley Guy, Ruth Jobe, David Guy, Jane Malone, Mary Guy, Nancy Guy, Dorothy Guy, John Guy (Debbie), and Jenny Paradis (Steve) as well as many cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Leonard and Marie Hamilton and Clarence and Jessica Guy and his uncle, Thomas Guy.

Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Michael’s life. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church, 620 N Bestgate Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401. Michael will be cremated and his remains will be inurned in a location to be determined.

Michael will be forever remembered for his strength, kind heart, bear hugs, determination, work ethic, generosity, playful sense of humor, and the boundless love he shared with those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
