Elen May Hulsey - Obituary

E

len (Ellamae) May Hulsey, 85 passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born on March 18, 1939 in Gallant Green (Waldorf), Maryland to the late Herman F. Adams and Sadie I. Adams (Buckler). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Hulsey, Sr., her son-in-law, Scott Williams and her siblings, Louise Moreland, Harry Adams, John Adams, Helen Moreland, Mary Nimmerichter, and Marie Richards. Ellamae grew up in Charles County, Maryland and graduated from Laplata High School in 1957. Upon graduation, Ellamae began a career with the FBI. During her employment she met and fell in love with Marvin Hulsey. They were married and proceeded to travel the world going TDY with the U.S. Navy. She held jobs and volunteer opportunities with numerous companies during her marriage, including with the Evening Star newspaper, Assistant manager with apartment complexes, office manager with several physicians, PTA president, HOA president and many others to name a few. But her greatest love and main responsibility and job, that brought her an abundance of joy, was being a mother to her three children, and later a Nana to her grandchildren. Ellamae was a shining example of the saying, that behind the uniform is a family standing strong. She was the love, constant, and anchor that kept her family grounded during military life, deployments, and beyond throughout the years. Her sacrifices and grace were immeasurable. Ellamae set a unique example that few could emulate. Although several tragedies occurred, she always trusted in her Faith and God to guide her through, and never wavered from that core value. At any time, Ellamae could recite a unique prayer at times of happiness and in times of sadness that would give you both peace and comfort. Ellamae loved dancing, cooking, eating crabs, watching her "shows", singing, sitting with family and sharing stories, watching the snow fall, Christmas time and cheering on her beloved baseball team, the Nationals, and although she rarely raised her voice, she could be heard yelling, Go Nats! with great passion. Ellamae’s love, legacy and voice of reason will live on in those that will love her for an eternity. She is survived by her loving children Marvin Hulsey, Jr., Marilyn Williams, and Kenneth Hulsey. In addition she is survived by one sister, Betti Bridgett, and a brother-in-law Paul Richards. Also her grandchildren Samantha Williams, Justin Williams, LeighAnn Beauchamp, Marsha Hulsey, and Andrew Hulsey. Great grandchildren Owen Beauchamp, Archer Hartley, and Harper Hulsey. And an abundance of nieces and nephews.
