Mary Nata Mix, “Nata”, a 10-year resident of Arnold, MD, died on April 14, 2020, of COVID-19 following a short illness. She was 85. Born July 25, 1934, in Washington, DC, to the late Placidino Zagami and Mary Smith Reid, she was an Air Force Wife for over 30 years. She and her late husband, Claire L. Mix, traveled the world and saw and lived in places that some people dream about. Nata was extremely creative and an amazing cook. Because of her culinary talents, her children and grandchildren couldn’t wait to see her and sample whatever dish she made them. Nata had a knack for remembering every detail about her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, children, and grandchildren. She is survived by three children, Richard W. Smith of Navarre, FL, Betty S. Gray of Bucksport, ME, and Mary A. Sheesley of Arnold, MD; six siblings, Anthony Zagami of Brinklow, MD, Mike Zagami of Perry, GA, Betty Jaurequi of Winchester, CA, Dena Cicoria of Lewes, DE, Iris Wurcturel of Menomonee Falls, WI, and Ida Sipe of Indian Head, MD; seven grandchildren, Richard B. Gray of Portland, ME, Lauren Nata Sheesley of Arnold, MD, Aaron Gray of Bucksport, ME, Brian Smith of Pensacola, FL, Thomas Smith of Navarre, FL, and Tyler and Cameron Sheesley, both of Arnold, MD; and two great-grandchildren. She will be interment next to her husband, Claire, at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Nata’s family will send out information to family and friends once her interment date at Arlington National is confirmed.
