Obituary for Mamie M. Bell

Mamie Madeline Bell, “Sister”, a 4-year resident of Dunkirk, MD and previously of Waldorf, MD, died on Saturday, May 23, 2020, following a 5-year illness. Born November 10, 1943 in Upper Marlboro, MD to the late Bernard and Christine Chapman she graduated from Frederick Douglass High School. Following high school, Mamie started a career in nursing, working as a Nurse’s Aid and private caregiver. She then decided to take on a new challenge as an Administrative Assistant for Wolford’s Well & Pump, Inc. from 1993 until her retirement in 2003. Mamie loved cultivating her tomatoes, working in her garden, and always had the most beautiful rose bushes and plants. She also enjoyed cooking and was always given the task of making potato salad for every family function. Mamie enjoyed a variety of film genres but was extremely fond of Westerns. She will be remembered for her devotion to helping her loved ones. In addition to her parents, Mamie was preceded in death by her husband of 18 years, William Edward Bell, III; two siblings, Louis, and Carol Chapman; and her grandparents, Lena Thomas and Clementine Chapman. She is survived by five children, William Edward Bell, IV of Milton, GA, Delores Smith of New Carrollton, MD, Daphne Bell of Dunkirk, MD, Valerie Bell-Walker of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Marlo Ann Bell of Lexington Park, MD; seven siblings, Charles, Bernard, Leon, William, Anna Mae, and Doris Chapman, and Mary Ann Greene; eight grandchildren, Durrel Rouse, Chad Edward Bell, Gregory Walker, Jr., Noah Walker, Breanna Rouse, Kelli Barnhardt, Mackenzie Bell, and Nicole Bell. Services and interment private.
