LaCresha June (Dolan) Ramsey, 85, passed away April 21, 2020 from unexpected heart failure. She was born July 14, 1934 in Tucker, Oklahoma, to the late William Henry (Bud) and Elsie Dolan. Nicknamed “Cricket” from an early age, she attended Lowell Junior High School (class of 1949), then Central High School (class of 1952), and began working at Brown-Dunkin department store in downtown Tulsa. She became an executive secretary and collection manager at Tri-State Insurance Company and Mid-Continent Casualty Company, working directly with president Perry Dyson Inhofe Sr. She was an active member of the National Association of Insurance Women, the Insurance Women of Tulsa, and the American Business Women’s Association. During this time she also modeled for the Loyce Stinson Hawk Modeling Agency, participated in a bowling league, and was a member of a South Tulsa Christian Dance Club. She attended both 29th & Yale Church of Christ with her father and the North Utica First Free-Will Baptist Church with her mother.

In 1963, she married classmate Joe Ramsey who took a job in the space division of Westinghouse Defense. As a field engineer, Joe worked on satellites and space programs in Maryland, Florida and California. LaCresha accompanied him on these adventures at the most exciting time in America’s space exploration. They had two daughters, Rochelle in 1966 and Dena in 1969 (“two buds on the same branch” she said), and raised them in Glen Burnie, Maryland. “Miss Cricket” ran the household while constantly hosting, feeding, and loving the neighborhood kids, friends, family, church members, and strangers that became lifelong friends. A member of the Annapolis Church of Christ, she taught Ladies’ Bible Class and Vacation Bible School there, hosted youth groups, and was a Bible Study Fellowship teacher.

Later in life, LaCresha and Joe spent the days traveling to visit family and relaxing at their Ocean City, Maryland, condo. “I lived so much, daily, greatly, before I met Joe. And with Joe, we traveled and zig-zagged across the country and lived so much,” LaCresha said. Her absolute joy was granddaughter Anastasia, with whom she had many play dates, adventures, talks, trips, kisses and hugs from the moment Anastasia was born. Her last trip was to San Diego for Christmas 2019 where she got to meet, hold, feed, love on and play with Anastasia’s three-month-old son.

Surviving are her daughters, Rochelle and husband Ted, Dena and husband Chris; granddaughter Anastasia and husband Brandon; great-grandson Callum; sister-in-law Frances; nephew Michael; sponsored-midshipman-now-retired Matt; plus many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, brother Dewel, parents Bud and Elsie, and nephew Duane.

Due to the state of Maryland’s executive orders regarding gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic, the family is unable to hold a public funeral at this time. LaCresha loved life, her friends, family, and parties, so the family plans on having a joyful, memory-filled gathering in the future when restrictions are lifted. Private burial will be at Memorial Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

LaCresha devoted her life to taking care of others, sharing a smile and showing kindness, while having fun and getting the best out of every day, year, decade and situation. “I’m here to love you all I can. Trying to leave as much love as I can,” she said when she turned 80.

She had a life-long love of music, art, dancing, watching baseball, reading, learning, sight-seeing and gardening. In lieu of sending flowers, plant some in your garden or visit a garden, and think of her.

I had the privilege of caring for LaCresha in the last few years of her life. Thank you for posting this lovely remembrance. It was a joy to read and learn about this wonderful person. She lived life to its fullest, and I was privileged to know her and her 2 wonderful daughters, who cared for and nurtured her lovingly to the end of her days. Peace to her and to her family and friends.

I have many fond memories of Mr. and Mr. Ramsey at Ocean City. I always enjoyed talking with them. OC isn’t the same without them. You and your families are in my thoughts and prayers. LeAnn McNamara

Cricket was alway smiling! The joy of Christianity gleamed so brightly in her eyes! She was a wonderful wife and mother. Dena and Rochelle were always beautifully dressed and were excellent students. It was always a pleasure to be with Cricket. I will cherish many memories of her with love.

Rochelle/Dena ... deepest sympathy, sending hugs and prayers 🙏🏻
You girls should feel proud of all you were able to do for her, as she did for you. She will surely be missed, but the wonderful life she had will live on with precious memories. Missing them, missing the hugs and kisses, missing their touch never seems to go away, but brings comfort knowing they are at peace now.
