Ellen & I send our Deepest Sympathy to her family. I had the privilege of working with Joan at Giant for 17 years until she retired. Our friendship grew and lasted. Joan and I continued our friendship with visits and phone calls, we talked about just anything that came up
Ellen and I enjoyed our times visiting at her home and getting to know her family.
We will truly miss Joan. As life has taught us, she will always be in our hearts and memories.

Growing up next door to Aunt Joan was a gift. Aunt Joan’s smiles and laughter at the antics Joni, Roy, and I got in to have stayed with me. Over the years Aunt Joan has called periodically to check on my Mom and discuss life. Our calls could last an hour without a loss for words. We also shared a love of reading murder mysteries. If there are two things we know about Aunt Joan it’s that she loved reading and gardening. She once loaned me a bag of books, and I read every one. As an adult, I now understand the gardening, even the weeding. Nature has a way of grounding us. You can get a lot of your best thinking done while weeding.

Two distinct childhood memories: I remember one day going over to play with Joni, and I saw Aunt Joan using a knife to scrape the burnt part of the toast away rather than throwing the whole slice away—a metaphor for life in a way, don’t give up on things, try to find the good. I also remember the buttered pan of the extra candied apple topping that was hardened and cracked in to pieces for all of us to eat as chunks of candy—another metaphor for life, see the possibilities in life, not just what is.

Aunt Joan was a beautiful person both inside and out who will be missed but lovingly remembered.
