Jim and I went to high school together, and I considered him to be one of my very good friends. When a group from our German class traveled to Europe, I think we all experienced one of our best memories from high school. Often appearing "gruff" on the outside, Jim had a heart for those he cared about. I remember, when my sister passed away, he was my only friend who gave me a sympathy card. He slid it through the slats in my locker. That meant so much to me. We lost touch for a long time and then reconnected through social media. I send my condolences to Jim's children. While I never met any of you, Jim spoke of you often. My heart hurts that he won't be around to be a part of your lives as you grow and eventually have families of your own. Keeping you all in prayer...…

I met Jim at Busch Gardens in 1983. He was in the Boogie Band and Stuart McLean and I were trombonists in the Ragamuffin Band. Two years later I reported to The US Navy Band and there was Jim in the row in front of me. What a nice surprise! He was one of the finest musicians I have ever worked with and was a lot of fun to golf with as well. We played in a brass quartet together each Christmas Eve at All Saints Church for about 15 years. His dry sense of humor always brought a smile to my face. May his memory be eternal.
