Charles Henry Behlke, Jr.
On Friday, January 11 , Charles “Charlie” Henry Behlke, Jr., a lifelong resident of Mayo died at the Mandrin Inpatient Care Center in Harwood after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born November 13, 1941 in Annapolis to the late Charles H. Behlke, Sr. and the late Mary Behlke-Cummings, Charlie graduated from Annapolis High School in 1959. He then served his country for four years in the US Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis before becoming an employee of and retiring from the Naval Sea Systems Command in 1993.
He was a charter member of the Deale Elks Lodge #2528, enjoyed riding BMW motorcycles, traveling, listening to country music, watching NASCAR, volunteering to help homeless animals with Rude Ranch Animal Rescue and spending time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, J. Fred Behlke.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 47 years, Norma K. Behlke; one daughter Bridget (Terry) Scott of Arnold; one sister, Charlene (Jeff) Opel of Mayo; two grandchildren, Sgt. Jeffrey Scott, USA (Dee) and Krista (Jarrod) Cox; 4 great-grandchildren, J.J., Briar, Donovan and Jayden.
Friends are invited to Charlie’s life celebration from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater. A memorial service will be held at Mayo United Methodist Church, 1005 Old Turkey Point Rd., Edgewater on Saturday, January 19 at 11am.
