Life Legacy


Joshua DuPuis Mackin, "Just Josh", 18, of Davidsonville died on Sunday, October 7, 2012.

Born on May 31, 1994 in Annapolis, MD Josh was the beloved son of Derril and Catherine Kelley Mackin and treasured brother of Seth Mackin. A senior at South River High School, Josh had a liver transplant on November 20, 1998, receiving a portion of his mother's liver at Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital. For the next 14 years Josh lived a courageous and wonderful life. He loved to snowboard, fish and play video games. Recently he was fishing on the Monokin River, where he caught a large trout that fulfilled his passion. Statistician of the South River Boys Lacrosse team, he loved watching his older brother, Seth, play.

Josh is survived by his parents, Derril and Cathy; his brother, Seth, all of Davidsonville; grandmother, Dorothy "Dottie" Mackin of Silver Spring; grandfather, Edward J. Kelley of Waterbury, CT; his uncles and aunts, Dr. Rev. William Kenneth and Donnelle Lyons of Gambrills, Margaret "Aunt Meg" Kelley, Francis and Jan Kelley, Peter and Sheila Kelley, Susan Kelley, Edward and Lyn Kelley and Michael Kelley, all of Connecticut; cousins, Seth,Matt (Stephanie), Ed, Bill, Christine, Justin, Zachary, Caitlin, Connor, Mollie and Julie; and Josh's special friends, Maureen and John Jett and Carter Harrison. He also leaves his two dogs, Alex and Dewey.

Friends will be received at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Friday, October 12 from 4 to 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD on Saturday, October 13 at 12:30pm. Interment to follow at Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery in Millersville, MD. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
