Johanna Privitera Maio, lifelong area resident died September 7. She was 102 years old. As an administrative assistant, she worked at the Treasury Department for 30 years and at Catholic University of America for 18 years. Her husband of 62 years died in January 1995. She was a member of the Circolo di Cultura Italiana and of St. John the Baptist Leisure Club. Survivors include two sons, Richard A. Maio and John A. Maio, both of Edgewater; six grandchildren, Christopher Maio of Riva, Margaret Klappenberger of Crownsville, Lauren Carbo Lopez of Severna Park, Melinda Slade of Derwood, April Mellinger of Hagerstown and Amy Moxley of Severn; thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving relatives and friends.
Friends are invited to Johanna’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater on Sunday, September 9, from 2-4 and 7-9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 10 at 10am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Rd., Edgewater. Interment will follow in Ft. Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are recommended to the charity of your choice. An online guestbook is available by clicking the link below.
