Biography

Lloyd Benjamin Rose, Jr. “Jack”, 81, died Saturday July 9 at the Heritage Harbour Rehabilitation Center in Annapolis. Jack was born on March 29, 1930 in Knoxville, TN to the late Lloyd B Rose, Sr. and Mabel Elizabeth Jones. Jack had many nicknames and was known variously as Lloyd, Jack, Bunny, Junior, and Butch. He grew up in Knoxville and graduated from Central High School in 1949. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard several different ships including the USS Missouri and the USS Winston-Salem. In 1964, at the age of 34, Jack and his family moved to the Oxon Hill section of Prince George’s County, MD where he was very active in the Oxon Hill Lions Club and served for a time as president. In 1976, the family moved to Edgewater where he spent the remainder of his life. Jack was an avid and skilled golfer. He worked as an estimator and draftsman for Boatman & Magnani, Inc. of Capitol Heights, MD for over 40 years. In addition to his parents and sister, Alice R. Welmers, Jack was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Sue Dyke Rose, in 2010. Jack is survived by six sons: Lloyd Benjamin Rose III and daughter-in-law Deborah L. Rose, of Camp Springs, William Timothy Rose and daughter-in-law Marcy D. Rose of Burlington, MA, David D. Rose and daughter-in-law Carol Darling of Great Falls,VA, Steven Andrew Rose of Edgewater, Robert Joseph Rose and daughter-in-law Verna L. Rose of Pasadena, and Thomas Earl Rose and daughter-in-law April Ann Rose of Baltimore. Jack is also survived by his sister, Sharon Elizabeth Broome of Claremont, NC, brother-in-law, William E. Dyke (Betty), of Knoxville, TN, and sister-in-law, June D. Keck (William) of Ellijay, GA, 19 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to Lloyd’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Wednesday, July 13 from 2:00 to 4:00PM and from 6PM until his funeral service begins at 7:00PM. Interment will be on Thursday, July 14 at 1:45PM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.
